It was great to see so many farmers, rural businesses and supporters of the agricultural sector at the Hanbury Countryside Show on 4 July. The event highlighted just how resilient, innovative and positive the farming community continues to be, despite the challenges it faces.
Throughout the day, we spoke to many farming businesses that are adapting to changing costs, regulations and market conditions. A key topic was the importance of having a clear understanding of business finances to help make confident decisions about the future.
We also saw strong interest in diversification, with many farming families exploring additional income streams such as holiday accommodation, commercial property, renewable energy and other complementary business ventures. While these opportunities can be rewarding, careful planning is essential to make sure they are right for the business.
Succession planning was another common discussion. Although it can be a difficult subject, many families recognise the value of planning early to provide clarity, reduce uncertainty and help secure the long-term future of the farm.
What stood out most was the optimism within the sector. Farmers continue to invest, innovate and look ahead, and events like the Hanbury Countryside Show provide a valuable opportunity to share ideas and strengthen the rural community. We enjoyed discussing the future of agriculture and look forward to continuing those conversations in the months ahead. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with the Burgis & Bullock team, including Lovatt & Associates, who took part in our fun games throughout the day.
