Government Delays New Companies House Reporting Rules for Small Businesses

Small business owners have been given some welcome breathing space following the government’s decision to postpone plans to introduce new reporting requirements through Companies House from April 2027. The proposed reforms would have required many small companies to provide more detailed financial information as part of their annual accounts.

The planned changes were intended to improve transparency and enhance the information available through Companies House. However, concerns about the impact on small businesses, particularly the additional compliance burden and potential disclosure of sensitive financial information, led the government to reconsider its approach.

Following feedback from businesses and professional advisers, the government has confirmed it will be reviewing the proposals and businesses will be given at least 21 months’ notice before any new requirements are brought into effect.

For now, there is no action required, and small companies can continue preparing and filing their accounts in the same way as they do today.
