Footballers target national success as fundraising continues

A team of Warwickshire accountants are swapping spreadsheets for shinpads as they target football glory on the national stage.

Burgis & Bullock, which has offices in Leamington, Nuneaton, Rugby and Stratford-upon-Avon, stormed to victory in the regional final of the Business Fives charity football tournament earlier this year and are now preparing for the national finals.

The accountancy firm will be competing against regional winners from across the country in Manchester on Tuesday, October 24, and is targeting to raise hundreds of pounds for a South Warwickshire charity in the process.

Burgis & Bullock raised £150 for The Shakespeare Hospice in the regional event and has chosen to continue fundraising for the charity.

The Shakespeare Hospice provides community-based care and support to patients across South Warwickshire.

A squad of eight players will be travelling to Manchester for the five-a-side tournament, with team captain Sam Hale leading the squad.

Business Fives has raised more than £650,000 for charity this year and a share of £3,000 is up for grabs for finalists to win for their chosen charity at the national finals.

Sam says that Burgis & Bullock’s team is hoping to raise in excess of £1,000 for charity and are proud to be representing Coventry and Warwickshire in the tournament.

“We were over the moon when we won the regional final, so to go one better and win at the nationals would be incredible,” said Sam.

“Business Fives is a fantastic charity initiative and we hope that we will be able to use our success on the pitch the raise money in support of The Shakespeare Hospice.

“The Shakespeare Hospice does vital work in Warwickshire and we’re proud to be supporting them again, while also representing our region up in Manchester.

“The team has been training since the last tournament and we’re feeling confident going into the finals. There will no doubt be some really tough competition but I can’t wait to get out there again with colleagues and represent the firm.”

Alison Stone, Corporate and Community Fundraiser at The Shakespeare Hospice said: “Corporate partnerships like the ones we have with Burgis & Bullock are essential in helping us in our mission to support those in South Warwickshire affected by life-limiting illnesses.

“We are incredibly grateful to the whole Burgis & Bullock team for their continued support of The Shakespeare Hospice.

“Everyone at the Hospice wishes the team the very best of luck in the finals and we will be rooting for them every step of the way.”
