Business Mastermind Group Case Study: Jon Newlyn, Tickling Trout

Since its launch, the Business Mastermind Group has achieved some fantastic success stories.

The group has helped members, inspired attendees to take their businesses to the next level, and to implement processes they had previously not considered.

Jon Newlyn, Director at Tickling Trout, has been a member for more than two years and has discussed the impact the group has had on his business.

The business: Tickling Trout is a specialist marketing agency based in Hampshire. It focuses on producing bespoke dynamic illustrations, an engaging whiteboard illustrated video that’s custom made for a business and its message.

Why did you join the Business Mastermind Group?

Jon said: “We first joined because we wanted to understand more the reviews that were coming in of our business. There was also the opportunity to provide services to other companies involved in the group.

“If you’re a business owner and you stop learning, then you start dying. So, there was an intellectual level and an avenue to learn.”

How has the group affected you and your business?

“It’s been good, quite enlightening and I have met a lot of good people through some very good seminars.

“Some of the impact is difficult to quantify, when you look at it in black and white. But intellectually it has certainly helped.”

How will the group help your business take the next step?

“We’re moving into cyber attack mitigation now, in the area of cyber-crime protection to protect your digital online presence.

“We have to look at various marketing pillars for what we do. We’ve discussed those in the group and there was some interesting feedback from other members, which we’ve been able to go away and look at.”

Why is the group so effective?

“It’s the collaboration of minds. It works much better than somebody who is on their own. It can vindicate your thinking and can sanitise what you are trying to do.

“Also, networking is good. It has to be of benefit, whether that be on the phone or in person, and it certainly is in this group.”

What would you encourage others to join?

“What you can learn at the sessions can be really quite interesting and the people there are very knowledgeable.

“The people in group are very accessible too away from the group. If you have a problem they are always there at the end of the phone.”

The Business Mastermind Group was launched in November 2017 by accountancy firm Burgis & Bullock, bringing together professional, business owners and leaders from a wide range of sectors for presentations, and discussions and clear action planning on how they can improve their business as well as making contacts that would be mutually beneficial.
