Why companies across the Midlands Use Burgis and Bullock
Burgis and Bullock working with a local group of companies
In October 2010 Burgis & Bullock were requested to provide audit and tax compliance services to a privately-owned engineering group based in the Midlands. The £10 million turnover privately owned group supplies a range of high-specification CNC machines to the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries as well as providing engineering solutions and service support.
The opportunity arose as a result of Simon Littlejohns’s past connection with the group which he maintained when he joined Burgis & Bullock at the start of 2010. In addition to the compliance work, they asked us to provide tax planning input covering corporate and personal taxation, VAT, PAYE and NI.
Early in 2011, the Group’s directors raised some concerns about their financing arrangements. Having navigated through the recession, they decided to look for a new source of funds to support them during their next phase of growth and turned to Burgis & Bullock for assistance. The Burgis & Bullock Corporate Finance team, led by Simon Chapman, Corporate Finance Partner, advised the directors throughout the process, introduced Santander as the new bank, and negotiated the financing package.
The re-financing of the entire Group’s borrowings was completed in March 2011 and one of the directors commented, "Simon’s knowledge of which banks to speak to, how to structure our proposal, and what matters to negotiate were all absolutely key to securing this successful re-financing."
This is a good example of the breadth of Burgis & Bullock’s services and how we can bring them all together to get the best possible result for the client.
A Tax Advice Story from one Burgis and Bullock client
Over Christmas 2010, one of the firm’s clients contacted Tax Partner, Simon Littlejohns, to see if he could help with the reorganisation of a family property holding group. With a little lateral thought, some creative asset transfers and company reorganisations, Simon came up with a solution which dealt with all the personal and commercial requirements but without creating unwanted tax liabilities - and all at a fee which the client was very happy to pay!
On completion of the assignment the client commented on behalf of herself and her brother, “We were very impressed with Burgis & Bullock’s solution to our companies’ tax situation. They have been helpful, efficient and made everything seem easy. I have no hesitation in recommending their tax advisory services”.
